Classic Album Night at Lyric Hi-Fi Bookmark and Share Posted Thu Feb 21, 2008, 3:35 PM ET

Received this fax today:

New York, NY—During "Classic Album Night," scheduled for 6:30PM on the second Thursday of each upcoming month, a Lyric high end specialist will play albums that have become standards, LPs when possible, on mid-six-figure reference systems in the main listening room of the firm's Manhattan store at 1221 Lexington Avenue, a unique acoustic space designed for optimum music playback. Admission is free, but reservations are required and can be made by calling Bob Herman or Mike Deutsch at (212) 439-1900. While supplies last, each attendee will also receive a free Chesky CD.

Someone at Lyric's got good taste.

Session Schedule
Thursday, March 13
Aja, Steely Dan

Thursday, April 10
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, The Beatles

Thursday, May 8
Dark Side of the Moon, Pink Floyd

Thursday, June 12
Their Satanic Majesties Request, The Rolling Stones

Thursday, July 10
American Beauty, Grateful Dead

Thursday, August 14
Brothers and Sisters, Allman Brothers Band

Thursday, September 11
Highway 61 Revisited, Bob Dylan

These are excellent albums, and should work well to show off any fancy system. Featured gear will include loudspeakers by Hansen Audio and Nola; electronics by ASR, Audio Research, Halcro, Mark Levinson, and McIntosh; a VPI turntable; and Nordost cables. Lyric's main listening room was designed by Lyric founder, Michael Kay, along with veteran audiophiles Dick Sequerra, Mitchell Cotter, and Mark Levinson, and promises to be impressive. Future sessions are yet to be scheduled. I'll be making my reservations.

Great music is always great.

How many more reissues of the AJA and Dark side of the moon we need?

Its not the age of the people, its the obnoxious attitude. Older white hippies who snort at anyone who isn't like them showing up. Otherwise I would go.

Do you know that this is the case, or is it just an idea? I plan on attending. I'll report on how it goes.

I actually think this has some commercial value to augment an art/coffee/bar or related retail space. The purpose would not necessarily be selling equipment, but providing a unique social experience to those that treasure great performances they can't hear at home. I would love to know how this turns out. Lots of boomers need a place to go early evening.
