First Kiss

"It's a romantic amp," he says. "Just right for you."

I smile. "I'm really excited about this, J-10. After all, it'll be my first kiss with tubes. But, I must confess: "I'm also a little bit nervous about it. I mean:

It'll be
my first kiss
with tubes!

For the real romantic, tubes are optional, vinyl is required.

Clay hit it right on the head.

Just be sure to practice safe tubing.

Relax, in a few years you will realize tubes are just better than we are capable of understanding ...

Stephen, it's not like we are waiting anxiously to see how your first kiss went or anything. Say something already! Was it a peck on the cheek or did you make it to second base on your first date? And don't give us anything like, "I was really tired and didn't get around to hooking her up" kinda crap. Actually, it doesn't really matter. I've already ordered one of those Haitian vodoo dolls...and the lady said she will construct it with a pair of Buddy Holly glasses at no extra charge.

Yes do tell. How was your first game of spin the bottle? I have always had an interest in tubes, but the price of admission has kept me out for the most part (I did get a tubed headphone amp not too long ago).

My interest in vinyl is growing stronger and stronger...

Sorry, guys; I don't mean to keep you waiting and I don't mean to be a tease (eh, maybe I do - just a little bit), but the truth is: the amp hasn't arrived yet. It's on the way, though. There'll be lots of new stuff to talk about soon.

Tube gear, it seems to me, may require a bit more fiddling around and tweaking. That's what has kept my interest in tubes distant, as I'm not really attracted to tweaking; I like to set it and forget it.

I do, however, play guitar through a tube amp, and, though I've never had to change a tube or do anything at all, I guess that's kinda sorta the same thing. We'll see. In any case, I'm looking forward to it.
