Tetra 506

Posted Sun Jan 8, 2006, 2:55 PM ET — By Wes Phillips/Jon Iverson

At $9750/pair, Tetra's 506 ain't cheap, but they sounded awfully good with Dissun's Original electronics. An 8" midrange/woofer and a 1.25" fabric-dome tweeter were making pretty music in this rear-ported design. Wynton Marsalis and Herbie Hancock have already purchased pairs, we were told. We asked, "Where's [Tetra's designer] Adrian Butts?"

"Oh, he's with Keith Richard this weekend voicing a new loudspeaker."

We had to ask.

Here is more proof that Pink Floyd's, Dark Side of the Moon, was way ahead of its time.

Okay guys, when did Keith Richards change his name to Keith Richard? (It was a matter of some dispute among the Stereophile scribes this evening.)

>BTW, Keith Richards became Keith Richard in the early days. He has since switched back to Keith Richards.

Yes! I had it right! Thank you, Adrian, for clearing my name.

Okay, I take back the accusation I made at dinner Sunday night that you are a "miscreant," Stephen. But you're still a ne'er-do-well! Time for you to listen to some Cliff Richard.

>Time for you to listen to some Cliff Richard.

Cliff Richard? I know Little Richard. But, Cliff Richard? Ah well, you've stumped me again, JA. Thank goodness for google.

>Time for you to listen to some Cliff Richard I believe that Cliff, unlike Keith, opted for the "Sir" too!

Ahem. Allow me to point out JA that it was my copy yor "corrected." Stephen was merely taken to task for the effrontery of correcting your need to change someone else's copy.

A little research will show that Cliff's name is Richards. Just to clarify, Keith's name was changed by Andrew Loog Oldham, as the Rolling Stones were starting out, to Keith Richard to avoid any confusion of being related to Cliff Richards. As the Stones gained in popularity, Keith changed his name back to Richards, his real name. Keith never was fond of the name change idea in the first place.

I thought the story went that Keith changed his name from Richards to Richard in an attempt to resemble Cliff Richard, who was one of England's greatest stars at the time.

Geez louise. Maybe I'll change my name from Mejias to Mejia in an attempt to resemble, um... nevermind. I mean, actually, I changed my name from Mejia to Mejias, so that people would think I'm related to the great bullfighter, Ignacio Sanchez.

Ole!

Incidentally, growing up, I lived on a street whose sign at one corner read, "Richards," and, at the other corner read, "Richard." I never knew which was correct.

A little searching has shown me that Sir Cliff Richard's real name is Harry Rodger Webb.

I think we got it now. I seem to remember Keith saying something like "...back when we opened for Cliff Richards ..." Great sleuthing Wes!

Rob Fraboni; you're incorrect. Cliff was ALWAYS 'Richard' after his name-change from Harry Webb. http://www.cliffrichard.org/
